Open Enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace is closed for 2014, but you may still have options to get health coverage this year. And if you joined the millions of Americans who have already signed up for Marketplace coverage, we can help you learn how to use it.

Your options after March 31, 2014

The next open enrollment period begins on November 15, 2014 for coverage that can begin as early as January 1, 2015.

Medicaid and CHIP enrollment continues year round. You can apply for Medicaid and CHIP through HealthCare.gov or your state Marketplace, or directly through your state’s Medicaid department.

You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. If you experience a qualifying life event, you’ll still be able to sign up for private insurance in the Marketplace outside the open enrollment period.

Here are some examples of qualifying life events:

  • No longer being covered by your parents’ plan
  • Moving to a new area
  • Having a baby or adopting a child
  • Getting married or divorced
  • Losing your other health insurance
  • Gaining status as a member of an Indian tribe
  • Gaining citizenship
  • Leaving incarceration

If you’ve had an exceptionally complex case or you’re in the Marketplace’s casework system – you can also enroll outside the open enrollment period.
